1. According to a recent report, ASC volumes are expected to expand by 9% between 2023 and 2028, driven by site-neutral reimbursement, advancements in outpatient surgical techniques and cost savings to patients and payers. ASCs generated $45B in 2024 revenues, a figure projected to climb to $57B by 2030.
  2. Medical City Health Care is expanding rapidly in Collin County, Texas, to keep up with the region’s growing population and health care needs. Projects include a $142M vertical expansion at Medical City McKinney, a $50M medical plaza and a $108M expansion at Medical City Plano, all part of more than $1.7B in system-wide improvements.
  3. A national telemedicine organization estimated that about 30% of health systems have suspended telehealth visits for Medicare beneficiaries amid the current government shutdown, following expiration of pandemic-era telehealth flexibilities on October 1.
  4. Bon Secours Mercy Health opened an orthopedic ASC in Newport News, Virginia, in a joint venture with Compass Surgical Partners and several physicians. The Surgery Center measures 20,000 square feet and features four operating rooms.
  5. Denver Health purchased a 0.7-acre site near its campus for $5.5M, where a national developer had once planned apartments. The site is zoned for mixed use, although the health system has not yet submitted any development plans to the city.
  6. Intermountain Health is expanding its Tellica outpatient imaging chain with three new centers in Washington state through a partnership with MultiCare Health System. The centers will span the communities of Auburn, Bremerton and Tacoma, Washington.
  7. Health system FHN (Illinois) has withdrawn from a joint venture with Beloit Health System (Wisconsin) to build a 10-bed micro hospital in Roscoe, Illinois, just two months after filing the proposal. FHN cited financial challenges and anticipated reimbursement cuts. Beloit plans to move forward with the project despite FHN’s exit.
  8. Yolonda Rice, an investor and entrepreneur, has partnered with the City of Springfield, Illinois, on a $6.7M project to renovate the historic King’s Daughters Home into furnished apartments for travel nurses and nursing students. Supported by nearly $1M in city TIF funding, the renovation is set to be completed within a year.
  9. The Centurion Foundation acquired a five-story, 162,000-square-foot medical office building on the campus of Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee. The sale price was $41M. The seller was Healthcare Realty Trust. Centurion is a nonprofit that provides real estate transaction services to other nonprofits.
  10. The Houston Business Journal interviewed David Bernard, CEO of Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital. Since 2024, Mr. Bernard has overseen the addition of a new hospital tower, a new medical office building and a comprehensive care center. He noted the health system plans to continue expanding in the community to meet growing demand and compete at a national level.
