- North Carolina lawmakers have introduced two legislative bills designed to repeal the state’s Certificate of Need (CON) law. Supporters claim CON law slows down the process of establishing new hospitals and health clinics and has led to North Carolina being one of the highest cost health care markets in the country.
- Vermont lawmakers are considering CON reform that would significantly increase monetary thresholds for capital projects and new equipment before a CON is required. The proposed bill has received support from the health care community.
- Ardent Health is going all-in on its outpatient strategy. According to a new article, the health system purchased nine urgent care clinics located in Kansas and Texas in 2024 and recently purchased 18 urgent care clinics in New Mexico and Oklahoma at the beginning of 2025. The strategy is bringing new patients into the health system’s network. Ardent is also planning de novo ASCs as part of its outpatient strategy.
- Florida State University announced plans to build a new $414M hospital in Panama City, Florida under the FSU Health name. FSU plans to contract with Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare to lease and operate the hospital.

- NYU Langone is reportedly in discussions to acquire a 52-acre campus with a 700,000-sf office building in Melville, NY. Canon U.S.A. currently occupies the campus as its headquarters. NYU Langone previously announced plans to expand in Long Island.
- The University of Utah announced plans to build a new hospital and medical center in West Valley City, Utah. University officials hope to address health inequities in West Valley City with the new hospital and the medical center.
- Novant Health has received CON approval to build a new 50-bed hospital in Bluffton, South Carolina, that is expected to cost $320M. Neighboring hospital operator Beaufort Memorial also received CON approval to expand its bed capacity in Bluffton.
- MD Anderson Cancer Center and Texas Children’s Hospital announced a joint venture to establish new pediatric cancer centers.
- The Medical Center of South Carolina announced a joint venture with Outpatient Imaging Associates (OIA) to establish several new imaging centers in South Carolina. OIA has 43 imaging centers in 11 states and 16 partnerships with hospitals.
