- According to a new hospital construction survey from Health Facilities Management, the most common specialty hospital projects being planned are: 1) behavioral hospitals; 2) cancer hospitals; 3) children’s hospitals; 4) orthopedic hospitals; and 5) women’s hospitals.
- CBRE published the results of its Health Care Investor and Developer Survey. The most appealing health care assets for investors are: 1) MOBs; 2) ASCs; 3) medical conversion projects; 4) inpatient rehab hospitals; and 5) behavioral health facilities.
- West Virginia’s health committee voted against a bill that would repeal the state’s certificate of need law for health care facilities. A top priority of West Virginia’s Governor is to repeal the state’s certificate of need law.
- Idaho legislators will be considering a bill giving county officials the power to review hospital-based property tax exemptions. Supporters of the bill want local officials to have more input in determining whether hospitals are providing sufficient community benefits to justify their property tax exemptions.

- Sutter Health (CA) announced a $1B plan to update its Emeryville, California campus. Plans include a new 335,000 sf hospital with 200 beds, along with a new ambulatory care complex that will offer a variety of outpatient services.
- Community Health Systems (TN) announced plans to sell a number of hospitals in its portfolio in hopes of generating $450M in net sale proceeds. CHS is currently in the process of selling Lake Norman Regional Medical Center (NC) to Duke Health, and ShorePoint Health System (FL) to Adventist Health.
- Encompass Health announced its expansion plans in a recent earnings call. The specialty hospital operator is planning to open seven hospitals in 2025, with five of those hospitals located in Florida.
- AdventHealth has acquired an undeveloped parcel of land in the Redtail Ridge development in Louisville, Colorado for $34M. Plans for the parcel haven’t been announced.
- A new trend is emerging where hospitals are leasing beds in skilled nursing facilities in order to free up inpatient beds and more easily discharge patients to a lower level of care.
