I don’t have a trip back to New Jersey planned. But when I do go, I think I’m going to have to make a stop in New Brunswick. (And not for the whoring and the drinking.)

A brick I bought to support the New Jersey State Bar Foundation and commemorate my term as Chair of the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) has now been installed on the patio of the Law Center!

Participating in this fundraiser was a way for me to give back and recognize the important work the Foundation does. I’m a big fan of the educational resources it provides the public, and the annual art show it hosts.

It’s also a way for me to mark what was a truly challenging year. I chaired the YLD and served as a State Bar Trustee from May 2020 to May 2021. It was the height of the pandemic. There were no in-person meetings or events, the bar exam was messed up, there was lots of civil unrest, and it was an election year. But thanks to the resilience, creativity, and commitment of the other members of the YLD leadership team, we were able to keep our cohort of attorneys engaged, and support their needs as best we could.

If you’d like to learn more about the foundation’s work or how to get involved, visit their website and explore the many ways you can make a difference. Let’s continue to build a legacy of service, one brick at a time!

Emily S. Kelchen founded Kelchen Consulting after realizing the free time she spent building websites and experimenting with social media-driven marketing and advocacy was much more fun than working as a traditional lobbyist. Emily is active in both the New Jersey and Wisconsin state bar associations, and is a member of the American Bar Association. She is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin’s communications committee and on the board of its Nonresident Lawyers Division. Emily graduated from Truman State University in Kirksville, MO, with a degree in political science, and earned her J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School in Madison, WI. She currently resides in Flemington, NJ, and therefore relishes any opportunity to talk about the Lindbergh baby kidnapping trial.
