Jacob A. Sosnay is an attorney in Meissner Tierney’s litigation practice group. His practice focuses on representing insurers and their insureds in civil matters and civil rights litigation in federal court.

Where are you from?
Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

What was your first job?
Custodian (we said janitor back then) at an auto mechanic shop summer before 8th grade.

Do you have any hobbies?
Many. Soccer, Hurling, Curling, avid consumer of live music (concerts big and small), guitar, brewing beer, baking bread and pizza to name a few.

What is something on your bucket list?
Nothing in particular.

Why did you become an attorney?
I don’t know. I never remember thinking I’d do anything else.

What does a typical workday look like for you?
Emails, briefs, phone calls, meetings, appearances, you name it.

Why did you choose your areas of practice?
When I graduated in 2006, the job market wasn’t robust. I was lucky to land at a boutique insurance defense firm where I learned from talented trial attorneys how to practice.

What is your biggest achievement, professional or personal?
Any response is necessarily too subjective. I once made a Beef Wellington that turned out pretty good. On a more serious note, I am proud to be part of a group that raises money to support Fisher House Wisconsin at our annual “Meat Night.” This most recent year we raised just over $30,000. Oh. I was also lucky enough to purchase Taylor Swift Eras Tour tickets for face value.

What activities do you participate in outside of the firm?
Did you see my list of hobbies? I am also active in my parish.

What is your favorite thing about MTFN?
The people I work with.

What has been the most impactful advice you have received about practicing law?
I always try to remember that, after all, I’m just practicing. That and, a tie never made me any smarter.
