Continuing a discussion of military Tricare benefits after divorce, today I address a method of continuing Tricare after active service, known as TAMP.

TAMP stands for Transitional Assistance Management Program. Members separating honorably from active duty, and their family members, can continue Tricare for up to 180 days after separation. In limited circumstances, reservists can be eligible after a period of 30 days of callup.

The separating servicemember must re-enroll in Tricare under TAMP. Note a strange enrollment timing rule: submitting the application before the 20th of the month of separation permits Tricare under TAMP to begin on the 1st of the following month. However, applying after the 20th delays the enrollment date until the 1st of the next month. Therefore, to prevent a gap in coverage, former spouses should discuss with their divorce lawyers means to ensure the application is submitted before the 20th of the separating month.

We will continue discussion of military health benefits in upcoming blogs on Wisconsin military divorce.
